To become a walker

Click here for a poster and pledge sheet (PDF, 280k). You can collect names and donations and bring the final check with you the day of the walk (or drop it off at WHEAT prior to the walk if possible), and/or you can ask colleagues and friends to make online donations.

Sample email to send to friends asking them to donate

"Hello! I am walking in the 5-Mile Walk for Hunger in Clinton on Saturday, May 31. All proceeds will go to local programs that help people in need. Would you please consider sponsoring me with a donation? It’s easy to make a secure online donation through Network for Good, a trusted and reliable donation system. Go to www.wheatcommunity.net for instructions. Once you have made your pledge, please take advantage of the opportunity to send me a quick e-card to acknowledge that you have agreed to help. I’ll walk the 5 miles on your behalf (unless you also want to join me!). Thanks."

If someone makes an online donation, you will receive a notice from us the day of the walk and you may receive an e-card from them acknowledging their pledge.

Wish list/how you can help

  • Help us with pre-and post-walk refreshments
  • Water, soda, juice
  • Fixings for a light lunch (sandwiches, chips, salad, etc.)
  • Snacks (mini candy bars, etc. for energy!)
  • Still have one water station left to sponsor (water, oranges)
  • Help us buy a banner and signs
  • Help us defray advertising and printing expenses
  • We really need someone to help us procure T-shirts (free T-shirts will be given to all walkers who bring in $75 or more)
  • We are encouraging groups to sponsor a food drive and bring donations the day of the Walk

Or…. How else can you help? Give us a call! Thanks in advance for supporting the 2005 Five-Mile Walk for Hunger.

To volunteer

We could use help with pre-and post festivities, with staffing water stations, with clean-up, and with simply spreading the word and cheering people along the walk route. Contact any of our sponsors to discuss how you or your organization can help:
