Volunteer
with WHEAT
At the heart of our organization
are our volunteers. Some people come regularly each week and work
in the store, food pantry or sorting through donations. Others serve
on our Board of Directors or Fundraising Committees. Some help us
find funding opportunities and write grant applications. We welcome
help from individuals, community organizations, corporate sponsorships,
church groups, and from people looking for community service opportunities
to satisfy requirements for tax abatements or other income sources.

WHEAT Community Services is a non-profit 501(c)3
agency that depends primarily on the support of private contributions.

etc.), or click here or on the DONATE icon to make an online contribution.
We sell holiday and birthday cards that you can give, and have opportunities
to make donations in memory of loved ones. We
also accept, during store hours, donations of good used furniture,
clothing, household items, computers and other electronics in good
working condition, non-perishable food and personal hygiene items.

Advocacy plays a critical role in the fight
to address issues of interest to people with low income, such as
hunger, homelessness, welfare reform, and job training. As the Alliance
for Homelessness notes in their legislative alert bulletin: the
more people who are well-informed and concerned about the legislation
and policies affecting low income people, and the more people who
are committed to making these concerns known to policymakers, the
more likely it is that our nation's leaders will make the best-
informed decisions affecting our nation's most vulnerable citizens.
Residents are encouraged to write letters to
local, state, and national legislators about pending pieces of legislation
that will affect them and their neighbors. These letters are crucial
in keeping active the dialogue between residents and legislators.
To help you both stay informed and take necessary action in the
participatory processes of federal decision-making, we offer the
following links to help you get involved.
